Workshops in the styles of Akram Khan, Ohad Naharin, Marco Goecke, David Zambrano, Jirí Kylián and many more leading choreographers will be given. 

Get the tools that today’s dancer needs during this complete program which includes daily open technique classes, workshops, and performance opportunities. Dancers can choose their own program and stay as long or short as they like. Advanced/professional level only.

Events during the week related to the Summer Intensive

  • Every Tuesday: Get Together:  at Plan West Café-Witte de Withstraat 188 (5 minute walk from Chassé)

from 18:00 – 19:30, meet your dancers and fellow teachers, snacks are on the house, please buy your own drinks. They will be happening on 6, 13 & 20 July.  

  • Every Wednesday evening – boat trip with skipper Pieter de Ruiter on the 7, 14 and 21 of July

Pieter, a choreographer turned boatsman who knows a lot about the Dutch dance scene, will take you on a 2 hour ride through the lovely Amsterdam Canals. Cost is 20 euros. Bring your own snacks and drinks.  Write to Pieter de Ruiter 31615091014 p.de.ruiter@ziggo.nl for more info and reservations.

SHOW YOUR OWN WORK:

  • Every Thursday: Summer Solos at Café Belcampo/ OBA Public Library in ‘De Hallen’ 

If dancers or teachers want to show any of their own work there will be open podium Thursday evenings at 20:30, on 8 & 22 July at Café Belcampo nearby to Chassé in the recently renovated Tram Remise De Hallen. The dance floor is about 8m x 6m so it is best for solos, duets and trios. Should you want to participate please contact office@hjs.amsterdam . He can usually arrange some free studio space for rehearsals. 

  • Every Friday: Informal Workshop Showings 

An informal presentation of most of the workshops which took place that week will be held each Friday at about 18:00 – 19:30 at the Top Floor/Theater studio at Chasséstraat 64.

Corona limitations at the time of the Intensive will apply. We follow the guidelines of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, which is part of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (www.rivm.nl/en).

Classes: Regular technique classes are open to dancers of advanced/professional level and pre-registration is necessary.
Workshops: It is necessary to pre-register on the site and then send a CV and dance film. A selection is made on the basis of the CVs (usually we choose a mix of professionals and students) and then payment must be made.  Workshops are mostly 5 days workshops (Monday to Friday) and weekend workshops. If you register for more than one workshop you only need to send the cv and dance film once. 

You are responsible for your own accommodation, though we have a suggestion list, and some offers for hostels, as well as a access to a private Facebook-group for dancers in the city to help each other out with housing. See Youth Hostels and Budget Hotels SI 2021 for more info!
