Laja Field

Laja Field (she/her) is a performer, teacher, creator and the Co-Artistic director of LajaMartin physical dance theater with partner, Martin Durov. Since its 2017 founding, LajaMartin has toured to 11 different countries worldwide; performing in festivals, creating for companies and schools as well as teaching in a multitude of capacities. Independently, Laja played an integral role in bringing her style of highly physical floor-work to NYC where she was also a founding member and rehearsal director with Vim Vigor. Her professional career began as a member of the Johannes Wieland company at Staatstheater Kassel, Germany where she had the pleasure of working with many incredible colleagues, teachers and guest choreographers. Laja holds a BFA from the University of Utah where she graduated magna cum laude in 2012. Currently Laja is based in her hometown Salt Lake City, UT and continues all artistic endeavors with LajaMartin locally and across the globed.

Hyper-dynamic movement defined by musicality and rhythm allows the body to experience the challenges and sensations of various qualities. Grounded in floor-work and highly physical phrase work this technique places emphasis on momentum and attack of the movement. Using physicality to access theatricality will call upon the performer to fill in the experience beyond just movement and open up the mind and body to their fullest potential.
