Carmen was trained in the Netherlands and after moving to the U.S.A. in 1978 became one of the founding members of Lines Contemporary Ballet (directed by Alonzo King) in San Francisco. After dancing there for 20 years she became a freelance teacher and has taught at Lines, Scapino, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, Itdanza and many other companies. She has taught at the Juilliard School in New York and teaches regularly at companies in South America. Carmen has recently made a number of succesful dance films and choreographies.
