Workshop description

Choreographers of today look for dancers who can not only do the steps, but who understand the choreographers language and can  bring to light the strength and beauty that artists possess within themselves.

In this workshop Carmen Rozestraten will work on developing these skills. Dancers will learn Carmen’s choreography and learn how they can play with various aspects of technique and artistic interpretation. These include  musicality, dynamics, expression, focus, and awareness with an emphasis on the upperbody.

The workshop will close with an informal presentation in the studio, bring family, friends, colleagues and neighbours!

Teachers info

Carmen was trained in the Netherlands and after moving to the U.S.A. She is a  founding member of Lines Contemporary Ballet (directed by Alonzo King) in San Francisco, and danced with the company from 1978-1996. She is a senior faculty member for the LINES Education Programs and often teaches company class. A native of Amsterdam, she has toured the world as a performer and educator, teaching at major ballet companies such as Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, Opera de Lyon, Spain’s Compañía Nacional de Danza, Alvin Ailey, and The Julliard School. Carmen has also made three award-winning dance films. Two can be seen at her website. The 3rd one still is shown.
