Dalton Jansen 

-graduated from the Urban Contemporary (JMD) course at the Academy for Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam. Dalton is artistic director of Company Dalton Jansen, which is a young, innovative and multidisciplinary Urban Contemporary dance company based in Rotterdam. Dalton teaches at various dance schools where he gives workshops and in the urban contemporary style.

With his choreographies Dalton has won several awards in recent years. In 2017 he won The Double Collective Hip Hop Games: a major international competition in France, the Audience Award in 2014 during the talent show ‘Het Rotterdams Open Podium’. In 2015 he won the Audience Award and jury prize at the Rotterdam Fanatics competition for the piece ‘The Double’ (in collaboration with Gihan Koster and Terencio Douw). And he has also won the 1st prize three times in a row at the Amsterdans Choreography Competition. In 2021 he founded his own dance company BLACK BIRDS and in the same year won several prizes: the BNG Bank Dansprijs, Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht and the DOX Award of 2021. With Black Birds Dalton set up special programmes to provide space for talent classes for young people who have found themselves in difficult social positions.

Within the framework of the new producer’s subsidy from the Performing Arts Fund, Dalton currently researches his own dance vocabulary under the auspices of DOX, Conny Janssen Danst and Production House Theater Rotterdam.

About the Workshop:
In this workshop, you will explore Daltons’, movement style, which is a mix of urban and modern dance that focuses on rhythm, musicality, pulse and flow.
His Theatrical work is a combination of multiple disciplines; such as spoken word, hip hop, contemporary and break dance.

Not all workshops at HJS require the same technical level, and we will be happy to advise the best workshops / classes for you. HJS doesn’t ask for a  registration fee. HJS reserves the right to deny your participation even after you have paid for the workshop(s). If this is the case, we will pay you back the full amount of your workshop payment(s) minus € 15,- administration costs.
