2019-4 Forsythe Technologies & Rep.
Workshop description

Amy Raymond will be teaching Forsythe Repertoire and technologies workshop, based on more than 20 years experience as a professional dancer, teacher and stager of his work.
She will choose a piece from Forsythe’s vast repertoire based on the unique make up of the participants. The choreography will be both coached and then deconstructed with the use of the Improvisation Technologies.

Exploring both the choreography as well as improvisation tasks empowers the dancer to create in real time. This process is a window into Forsythe’s creative practice which places the dancers’ creative autonomy as a central element.

William Forsythe’s vision has opened new dialogues in dance. As artistic director of an extraordinary collection of dance artists, he has blazed a trail for contemporary dance for more than 20 years. One of his evolving projects was the codification of Laban-based (among other), real-time movement analysis systems called Improvisation Technologies. These concepts and methodologies are employed by the dancers not only to generate set phrases of movement but also as a tool for performed improvisation.
